1st Generation Toyota Tundra Differential Oil Limited Slip
My Toyota dealer also say they use SAE 80W-90gear oil with LSD additive.
1st generation toyota tundra differential oil limited slip. I had the same problem when I changed my diff with mobil 1 with lsd additive. The 4cyl 8 diff 79-85 Trucks and 4Runners all have 4-cylinder engines and use what most call the 4cyl 8 diff in the front the same one they use in the rear- see 4cyl 8 diff below. The official Toyota owners manual says to use 80w-90 hypoid gear oil for the front diff and transfer case and synthetic hypoid gear oil for LSD differentials 80w-90 GL-5 Ive read people using Amsoil Royal Purple Lucas Mobil 1 etc.
Im confused by all the options. How do I tell if I have a limited slip differential. My Toyota manual says.
As for traction none of the 07 Tundras come with an LSD Posi The factory Electronic LSD is just traction control and is more POS than POSI. Drained the Toyota Limited Slip Differential 75W-85 gear oil TL GL-5 recommended by Dealer because clutch plates were binding and shuddering when turning. Discussion Starter 1 Jul 31 2008.
The 75 IFS diff 86-95 IFS trucks and 4Runners and all 93-98 T100s use a 75 front diff that is offset to the passengers side. Switched to royale purple with autozone additive and havent had any problems. Discussion Starter 1 May 4 2013.
I think if you have good tires and take it easy on the gas you dont need a limited slip. The Amsoil oil Im considering says its good for LSD differentials. Joined May 4 2013.
The truck DOES NOT have the TRD. Recently converted back in 2004 to Toyota from a lifetime with GM I have found both my 02 Camry and 06 Tundra to be very easy to maintain. I have always had 4 x 4 diesel Chevys but I had to scale back because of fuel prices.
